with a thankful heart

I claim this scripture daily as a parent...and I am thankful for the promise it assures me of...

"Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our ...condition, and keeps us present before God. That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good."

Gearing up for pies

So our church makes these fab-o apple pies that we sell as a fundraiser, and we're in the throes of taking orders, so if you live nearby (you know who you are), email me with your order and I'll get you hooked up.
The pies come frozen, all ready for you to bake & take all the credit. Each pie is $9. So order lots and be prepared to taste an out-of-this-world pie (no really, I'm not making this stuff up)!

Now...drum roll, please...this is my first week of an extra day off per week! Yippee! Extra time at home to do all the stuff I really want to do better. I"m so excited. The thing I'm not excited about is the smaller paycheck--but God can handle it, He always does!

Ugh

Okay, so I have a confession to make. Last night I got lost in a town that is barely visible on a map! What a loser I am!
It was time to go pick up Hannah from the dance--midnight it's over. So off I fly into the wild dark yonder in search of an elusive country club in a small town. I know where the town is, and I know how small it is, so I figure, how hard can it be to find a country club there? I was wrong! I drove around that town for 20 minutes, in the dark, looking for clues as to where this place might have its existence, and nothing, nada, zilch, zero. The Lord and I had a chat, and short of me completely letting go of the wheel to let Him steer, which I was ready to do, I finally acquiesced and ducked into the only place open at that time of night, the bar (which by the way I had passed 4 times already in search of a pay phone--it seems with the advent of the cell phone, those have become a thing of the past in small town America! Well guess what people! Not everyone owns a cell phone, and sometimes there are still emergency situations where one NEEDS to make a call and would like to find a pay phone!!!!!). So I walk into the bar, barefoot (remember, my plan was to not need to exit my vehicle, so shoes weren't necessary). And I finally got the establishment owner's attention to ask her where this place was exactly. Evidently it was in a part of town that I failed to wander around aimlessly in the dark--all those slightly rough streets in serious need of repair melded into one another by that time and I thought I had covered it all. So armed with my new found information, off I went.
So what do two people who love each other very much and who's reunion has been delayed by about 20 minutes from the original plan do when they're finally reunited? Yep, you guessed it, they yell at each other. We were both worried, both scared that the other might have come to harm, both wondering what the other was thinking about the lateness of the hour, and rather than be joyful, we spent the first 1/3 of the ride home with raised voices, and the rest of the ride home exchanging clipped conversation in our hurt.
I feel bad, I should have asked for directions from Mark before I left home, but I was arrogant (and dippy) and forgot. I also should have grabbed Mark's cell for just such an emergency, but I didn't do that, either. I should have stopped at the bar to ask where I needed to go the first time I passed it, but I was afraid.
So after all that wandering around, I'm still not sure I could find the place right off the next time. I think I'll ask before I leave home.

The bed--I got permission!

The bed is under the slant of our roof, and we raised it so that it would feel loft-ish. Peter likes it. I'm glad he's off the floor!

Random

So while the pizza is in the oven, I'll catch you all up on what's going on.

Biggest news, Peter got his braces put on. It was rather a shock for all of us, as the ortho's office called Tuesday morning saying they had an opening that afternoon at 1:15, and could Peter please fill it. We got that message at 12:40, returned their call at 1:05, called school at 1:06, and Peter was in the chair at 1:15, wide -eyed and a bit fearful at the thought of mom having to go back to work while he sat for the torture. Yeah, I know, bad mommy moment. So for the next 45 minutes, I tried to concentrate on my work, but my mind was in that office with my boy. Bottom line, when I got back, it was all over, and he was fine. So since Tuesday, he's been adjusting to his new look and feel. I'd post a photo, but he made me promise not to, sorry.

More news about Peter, his bed is finally finished! We hung it with lag bolts anchored into the wall and chains hung from the ceiling at about waist level, so he has a bunch of room under his bed as well as having a slight loft feel to being in his bed. He's happy. Again, I'd post a pic, but for whatever reason he's shy about that, too. Sorry again.

I have one more week of working 4 days a week, then after that, I get an extra day off. Believe me, I'm looking forward to that! Since school started, Wednesday has been my errand running/appointment making day, and with all that going on, I have no time left to give to my home! I'm looking forward to being able to have that luxury.

Dancing the year away...again

Hooray! For the second year in a row, Hannah has made the drill team! Here's to another year of EARLY morning practices, road trips, and dazzling performances! I'll try to let you know when they'll perform, so if you're interested you can take it in.

Peter had his first-ever experience with the sport of water polo. The Jr. High boys are participating in the inagural program this year. He came home today feeling good about his goalkeeping skills--who knows where this will go! :-)

Leah is soon to start rec volleyball after school on Tuesdays.

So somehow, we'll be mostly flitting around here and there to keep up with our kids, and somewhere along the line we'll find time to keep you posted on all of it.
